The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ontario SPCA) is a registered charity with a Provincial Office in Stouffville and supports close to 50 communities throughout Ontario. The following opportunity is available based out of our Provincial Office location in Stouffville.

Position:       Director, Affiliate & Community Outreach
Status:           Full-Time Position 

The Director, Affiliate & Community Outreach reports to the Senior Director, Humane Programs & Community Outreach.

This position is part of the Senior Management Team of the Ontario SPCA and this position requires regular travel throughout Ontario.  This senior management position is responsible for developing, maintaining and enhancing Affiliate & Community relationships and partnerships for the Ontario SPCA, in order to strengthen and broaden the mission of the Society. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supports the Senior Director, Humane Programs & Community Outreach in achieving the department’s strategic objectives;
  • Provides leadership and proactive participation as an active member of the Senior Management team;
  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff reporting to the position;
  • Develops the structure and implements the process of supporting community-based animal welfare initiatives, with a primary focus on the Affiliate Societies of the Ontario SPCA and including other types of organizations in keeping with the strategic objectives of the Society;
  • Cultivates and enhances external relationships, with a focus on Affiliate Societies, by identifying needs and providing timely, relevant support to community efforts providing for the welfare of animals;
  • Plays an active role, in consultation with Affiliate Societies, in the development and implementation of Pets For Life, a strategic initiative of the Ontario SPCA;
  • Oversees humane education programming initiatives including the Animal Welfare Educational Conference, AnimalSmart programming, and camp programming;
  • Participates in developing and managing department budgets and operational plans and participates in ongoing monitoring and reporting of results pertaining to the objectives identified in the strategic plan.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in related degree program, 5 years of non-profit management experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience;
  • Experience in working in a charity or non-profit environment and an understanding of Board governance;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to coach and mentor others;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative management style;
  • Experience in reaching out and engaging communities in a common area of interest;
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Proven negotiation skills and abilities;
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills;
  • Demonstrated concern and passion for issues related to animal welfare;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Valid G Driver’s license and availability to travel throughout Ontario, with occasional evening and weekend work required.

Vet Tech/Receptionist– Ontario SPCA Centre Veterinary Hospital
Full Time Position, 40 hours per week

As a Veterinary Technician/ Receptionist, you will be responsible for assisting the staff veterinarians with all aspects of surgical procedures and treatment and assisting with general clinic operations. As a receptionist, you will be responsible for making appointments, greeting clients, taking payments, recording patient information and performing general administrative duties. You will also be responsible for the care of animals housed in the hospital and the general cleanliness of the hospital.

Candidates require previous employment experience in a veterinary clinic, including surgical experience, and have strong animal care knowledge. Successful applicants will have exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, strong computer skills, and be looking for a fast-paced, energetic, teamwork environment.  Candidates must have own transportation and be able to work flexible hours including occasional Saturdays. Candidates should have no allergies affected by ongoing exposure to animals.
